Folder names don't tell you what a sample sounds like. This free pack of 46 dark techno sounds is a hands-on way to try the alternative: load it into Vibseek Studio and browse it on a sound map, where kicks, percs and stabs that sound alike sit next to each other, right beside the samples you already own.
The pack is Elements Selection, a free cut from Fourfloor's Dark Techno Sample Pack by Tomy DeClerque and Aleksander Great: 24-bit WAV loops and one-shots, royalty-free.
Why browse samples by sound
Most sample libraries are organised by where they came from: pack name, then Kicks, Percs, Loops. That works until you own a few thousand files. Then finding "a dry, short perc that fits this groove" means auditioning folder after folder.
A sound map flips this. Vibseek Studio analyses each sample on your computer and places it by how it sounds. Similar sounds cluster together, whichever pack they came from. When you find one sound you like, its neighbours are the next ones worth hearing.
Try it with this pack
- Download the pack with the form at the bottom of this page and unzip it.
- Add the folder to Vibseek Studio alongside the rest of your sample library.
- Open the map and find where the new sounds land. Compare where the RAW and DIRTY versions of the same sound end up, and which of your existing samples they sit next to.
- Start from one sound. Pick a kick or stab you like and audition its neighbours. That's how you rediscover old samples that fit.
- Drag it into your DAW. Drag and drop works with any DAW.
